Presidential Pardon for Army Major
President Bola Tinubu has granted clemency to Major Suleiman Alabi Akubo, a Nigerian Army senior officer.
Akubo, 62, was sentenced to life imprisonment for selling over 7,000 stolen military weapons to Niger Delta militants.
- He was among 175 persons who benefited from a presidential pardon and clemency.
- The National Council of State approved the pardon.
According to Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Akubo's life sentence was reduced to 20 years due to "good conduct and remorsefulness."
Akubo's pardon follows a recent review of his case.
