Indianapolis Jewish Leader Cheers Release of Remaining Hostages

A Jewish leader in Indianapolis and a top Israeli diplomat expressed hope for lasting peace after Hamas released the remaining hostages held in Gaza.

Hamas released 20 living hostages and the remains of four dead hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli custody, marking the end of a war that began with Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

The Oct. 7 attack and the subsequent war in Gaza have been incredibly personal for central Indiana's Jewish community.

The attack killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostage. Marc Swatez, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, spoke about the significance of the release.
