NASCAR Executive Appears To Inadvertently Reveal Changes To 2026 Cup Series Playoff Format
A recent statement may have revealed changes to the 2026 Cup Series playoff format.
There has been ongoing discussion about whether NASCAR should abandon its playoffs and return to a full 36-race points system.
NASCAR introduced a postseason points format in 2004, known as the "Chase for the Nextel Cup", replacing the previous system where the driver with the most points at the end of the season was crowned champion.
Matt Kenseth dominated the points standings in 2003 despite only winning one race, locking up the championship before the final race and making the season finale essentially meaningless.
