Motorcycle Deaths on the Rise in Colorado
According to the Colorado State Patrol, 2024 has been the deadliest year on record for motorcyclists in Colorado, with a record high of motorcycle crash deaths.
Sgt. Ivan Alvarado of the Colorado State Patrol stated in a Colorado Matters interview:
We have been recording deaths for a while, and I could tell you that 2024 saw a drastic increase in motorcycle deaths across the state, and we had a total of 165 deaths up to July 23 of this year.
Alvarado emphasized the importance of safe riding, saying:
One death is too many, and we're trying to talk to everybody out there, especially the riders, that they need to ride carefully.
- In 2024, there were 61 motorcycle rider deaths.
- The previous lowest recorded deaths were 135 in 2023.
The Colorado State Patrol attributes the rise in deaths to distracted driving and urges both riders and drivers to take responsibility for their actions on the road.
