Arrests Made in Death of 12-Year-Old Girl
A mother and aunt of a 12-year-old girl have been arrested after the child's remains were found inside a container near an abandoned home, according to authorities.
The girl's mother, 29-year-old Karla Garcia, and her sister, 28-year-old Jackelyn Garcia, were taken into custody. Karla Garcia was charged with murder and child cruelty, while Jackelyn Garcia was charged with risk of injury to a child and child cruelty.
An arrest warrant was also issued for Karla Garcia's boyfriend, 30-year-old Jonatan Nanita, who was taken into custody Monday evening on charges of murder and tampering with evidence.
City officials announced the arrests in the death of Jacqueline "Mimi" Torres.
