On 'Laugh' Nodes build an ecosystem of sound and feeling - WOUB Public Media

Nodes' "Laugh" Creates an Immersive Sonic World

Columbus collective Nodes, led by Arman Lopeman and Nick Allen, has crafted a dreamlike, immersive sonic world on their new release "Laugh".

According to Emily Votaw, "Laugh" unfolds as a breathing, evolving ecosystem of sound, rather than a set of songs. The project features a wide circle of collaborators, including a small orchestra of marimba, flute, cello, trumpet, clarinet, and violin, which merges into something profoundly cohesive.

Laugh moves like shifting weather: warm fronts of melody collide with cold fronts of distortion, and moments of clarity give way to low-pressure swells of noise and atmosphere.

The band utilizes Logic Pro, their chosen digital workstation, as an agent of brilliant hallucination, warping and refracting each sonic fragment into vivid bursts of revelation.

Author's summary: Nodes' "Laugh" is a dreamlike sonic world.
