Clare County Council and Tipperary County Council have confirmed the decision to pedestrianise the old Killaloe Ballina Bridge.
This decision follows an extensive period of public consultation and a successful trial period, which commenced two months after the opening of the new Brian Boru Bridge.
From 6pm, October 17, 2025, the historic narrow stone arch bridge will close permanently to all vehicle traffic.
It will serve as a pedestrian and cycle link between the twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina.
