Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolences to the family and friends of three-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Alexander Dityatin.
“The three-time Olympic champion and legendary representative of the Russian school of artistic gymnastics has passed away. Alexander Dityatin was a determined, strong-willed and self-disciplined person, and it was this total dedication that underpinned his outstanding achievements and glorious victories. He instilled the same qualities in his numerous students. The cherished memory of Alexander Dityatin will forever remain in the hearts of his family and loved ones, friends, teammates from Leningrad Dynamo, and members of our national team.”
Alexander Dityatin passed away at the age of 68 years. He won medals in all eight events at the 1980 Olympic Games, including three golds, and became a seven-time World Champion and four-time European Champion.
