State pension age review will consider ‘automatic adjustment mechanism’

State Pension Age Review to Consider Automatic Adjustment Mechanism

Changes emerging from the state pension age review are likely to address intergenerational fairness, including an age adjustment mechanism.

Dr. Suzy Morrissey, leading the review and deputy director at the Pensions Policy Institute, discussed the review's scope at Pensions UK's annual conference in Manchester.

“This has been part of previous independent reviews. It’s not part of the [this] one.”

The Department for Work and Pensions requested consideration of fairness between generations and the role of the state pension age in managing long-term sustainability.

The review does not include a recommendation to rise the state pension age.

Author's summary: Review considers automatic adjustment mechanism.
