The first wife of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, Joan Bennett Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 89. Her complicated legacy, marked by addiction, music, and a connection to the political dynasty, was remembered by dozens of Kennedy family members who gathered in Boston for a Catholic Mass.
“It's no secret that she had a complicated life, you know, her troubles with alcohol. But for us, she was our grandmother,”
said Edward Kennedy III, expressing gratitude to the city of Boston for supporting his grandmother during her life's challenges, including her divorce from Ted Kennedy in 1982.
