Special Schools Closed in KwaZulu-Natal
76 special schools in KwaZulu-Natal have been closed by parents and the South African National Association for Special School Education (SANASE) due to the education department's failure to pay subsidies on time.
Parents protested outside Khulangolwazi Special School in Durban, citing the department's neglect of special schools. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, led by MEC Sipho Hlomuka, regrets the delay and promises to provide the funds by the following Thursday.
The late payment affects the daily running of the schools, making it impossible to pay for water, electricity, fuel, and school bus repairs.
