Undisciplined Hilltoppers Fall to Wildcats

Chardon had plenty of opportunities to beat Western Reserve Conference foe Mayfield, but multiple mental mistakes cost the Hilltoppers dearly in their 28-21 loss.

Despite the mistakes, the two teams were tied 21-21 late in a back-and-forth game. Mayfield freshman quarterback Dario D’Agostino proved to be the difference on the Wildcat’s last drive.

Staying calm and collect, the freshman marched his team down the field and capped it off with a game-winning 7-yard touchdown run with 2:11 left in the game.

Upon getting the ball back, Chardon moved the football to midfield, but could not do more and turned the ball over on downs. As the Wildcats celebrated the end of a five-game losing streak to the Toppers, Chardon’s players quietly walked off the field, likely wondering what could have been.

Both teams entered the contest 4-3 and 1-1 in conference play. The win allows Mayfield 5-3 (2-1 WRC) to stay in the Div.

Author's summary: Chardon loses to Mayfield due to mental mistakes.
