Documentary "Uvalde Mom" Screens at Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival

The documentary "Uvalde Mom" is screening at the Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival at Colorado College. The film tells the story of Angeli Rose Gomez, a mother who rescued her two sons during the 2022 school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

Colorado Matters producer Hayley Sanchez spoke with filmmaker Anayansi Prado about the documentary. Prado shared what drew her to Gomez's story:

Like most of us, I was very moved by what happened in Uvalde. As I learned more about the community — a Latino, working-class farming town near the border — it really resonated with the kinds of communities I’ve been documenting for over 20 years.

The film explores the challenges of documenting trauma and what Colorado can learn from the shooting. Author's summary: Documentary explores Uvalde school shooting.
