The Chicago Teachers Union has 54 bosses making over $100,000, with little of members' dues going towards representation.
According to the union's own numbers, in the 2025 fiscal year, more than 50 CTU officers and employees made $100,000 or more. This is significantly higher than the median salary in Chicago, which is $65,250, and the average Chicago teacher's salary, which was $86,439 during the 2023-2024 school year.
Stacy Davis Gates, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union, takes in over $273,000 for her union gigs.
Author's summary: CTU dues largely support high-paid bosses rather than teacher representation.
