YEREVAN, ARMENIA—A team of Armenian and Polish archaeologists are studying Argishtikhinili, a 2,500-year-old Urartian fortress in western Armenia.
The excavation has yielded living areas, a storage room, and a stone carving with human features.
“It was an idol-like figurine, preserved in its original position”
Mateusz Iskra of the University of Warsaw noted the well-preserved state of the dwellings and the stone carving, which features eyebrows, closely set eyes, an elongated nose, and thin lips.
