India's proposed Digital Privacy Data Protection Act, 2023, requires websites and online services to verify user age, obtaining parental consent for minors and refraining from targeted advertising.
There might not be a perfect system in place that ensures the accuracy of the verification method, protects the privacy and security of users, and adheres to data minimisation principles.
The proposal has drawn criticism from the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés (CNIL) regarding potential privacy implications.
