Ohio Sex Offender Arrested in Sumter County
A 61-year-old sex offender from Ohio, Bobby Ray Blackburn, was arrested in Sumter County for failing to register in Florida.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, a deputy spotted Blackburn hitchhiking on Interstate 75 in Oxford on Thursday around 1:30 p.m.
- Blackburn had been in Florida for three days and was trying to hitch a ride back to Ohio.
- He claimed to be a sex offender in Ohio, but stated he no longer had to register as such.
- A check of his criminal history revealed he was a sexually violent offender out of Ohio.
- The National Sex Offender Database listed him as a sex offender out of Tennessee.
Blackburn was convicted of criminal sexual assault involving a child on April 5, 1991, and had warrants out of Georgia and Ohio for failure to appear for DUI.
