A Queens Village man, Rippon Uddin, 39, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of labor trafficking, grand larceny, and other crimes.
According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, Uddin allegedly stole approximately $18,000 from a Bangladeshi student who was in the United States on a student visa.
Uddin allegedly told the student that he would hire an immigration attorney on his behalf, but instead, forced the student to house sit for him in Queens Village, where he was often locked inside and forced to do unpaid household labor under the threat of deportation.
Uddin was arraigned on Oct. 23 in Queens Supreme Court on an indictment that also charged him with scheme to defraud in the first and second degree and coercion in the third degree.
