Lockhart's career spanned multiple generations, earning her a motherly figure status among television viewers. She played Ruth Martin in the popular CBS series "Lassie" from 1958 to 1964, raising the orphaned Timmy (Jon Provost).
"She was very happy up until the very end, reading the New York Times and LA Times everyday," said Lyle Gregory, a family spokesman and friend of 40 years. "It was very important to her to stay focused on the news of the day."
As the daughter of character actor Gene Lockhart, June was frequently cast in ingenue roles during her early film career. Her death, due to natural causes, was announced by her family spokesman.
