A farmer in Awan village, Rumbek East County, was arrested over the weekend for allegedly maiming 15 cows with a panga.
The incident occurred after the cows destroyed the farmer's garden, according to local authorities and a cattle owner.
“It is because I am a responsible person that I didn’t get involved in issues that can trigger violence,”
said Akuckerieth Marial Malual Anyar, the cattle owner. Anyar stated that he is willing to compensate the farmer for the damaged crops, but also demands compensation for his injured livestock and legal action against the farmer.
The incident has heightened tensions between farmers and cattle herders in the county.
