Greyhound charity to close Petersfield-area branch in 50th year

Greyhound Charity to Close Petersfield-Area Branch

The Portsmouth branch of the Greyhound Trust (PGT) has announced its closure, effective November 30, due to rising running costs and difficulties in rehoming.

“People are happy to donate to the dogs and we’re always really grateful but the cost of things like electricity, food and wages for staff has all gone up. It wasn’t an easy decision to make but there was nothing we could do, really.” - Katie Redpath

The branch, located in Rake, has provided love, food, and new homes for countless dogs over the past 50 years. Despite celebrating its 50th birthday just a few months ago, the charity has faced significant challenges, including increased administrative duties and rising costs, making its work unsustainable.

The PGT has expressed its gratitude for donations, but the rising costs of essential expenses have led to the difficult decision to close the branch. The team has released a statement, describing the closure as a decision made with a “heavy heart”.
