A new set of vocational qualifications, known as V-levels, will be introduced for 16-year-olds in England to simplify the post-16 education system.
The courses will replace existing Level 3 BTecs and other technical qualifications, creating a clearer pathway for students pursuing practical or career-focused learning.
Ministers also plan to introduce a new 'stepping stone' qualification to reduce the number of pupils resitting maths and English GCSEs.
The reforms follow Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's pledge to boost vocational education, setting a target for two-thirds of young people to go on to university or take up a technical qualification.
