WhatsApp has introduced passkey support for accessing end-to-end encrypted chat backups, making it easier to restore them in case of a lost or damaged phone.
Previously, users had to record a 64-digit string to unlock encrypted backups, which was tedious. Passkeys simplify this process, allowing access to chat backups via fingerprint, screen lock, or Face ID.
Passkeys let you quickly access and restore your WhatsApp chats on any device with your biometric or screen lock code.
To set up passkey backups, users can tap on the profile icon on Android or the Settings tab on iOS.
WhatsApp has been testing passkeys and is now rolling out the feature globally on both Android and iOS.
