Despite struggles in public schools, social institutions, and healthcare, the Berlin state administration is investing millions in expanding state repression.
The General Security and Order Act (ASOG) "reform" by the CDU-SPD coalition is a frontal assault on democratic rights, presented as a necessary modernisation for public safety.
"The dangers are growing," claimed Burkard Dregger, "coming from within the country as well as from abroad."
Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) stated that Berlin is "relying on technological modernisation because the police must not be weaker than the criminals.
