Boeing's aircraft delivery delays are hindering Ethiopian Airlines' growth plans, despite the airline's preparation for a major airport expansion and increasing passenger demand, according to Group CEO Mesfin Tasew.
"We still have a shortage compared to our longer-term plan," he said. "This will continue, maybe for the coming two years."
The airline has over 100 aircraft on order from Boeing, but slower-than-expected deliveries have resulted in a fleet shortage. However, Ethiopian Airlines expects to receive widebody aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus in large numbers after the two-year period, allowing it to realign with its growth strategy.
