A gravel road near the Cajun community of St. Martinville is shaded by massive oaks and pines planted two centuries ago. It’s a place where legend says a wedding in the 1870s once shimmered beneath golden spider webs.
According to the story, the extravagant nuptials were re-enacted around 80 years later. The shaded roadway once led to the grand plantation mansion of Charles Durand.
