The Gardner Newman girls cross country team made history by finishing third at the Division II state competition, their highest finish in program history.
With a team mostly composed of first-year runners, the Mustangs showed significant progress throughout the season.
"The first race was really tough, but you just kind of get used to it after a bunch of practices and races,"said eighth-grader Emma Clark.
Despite their achievement, the runners were self-critical and somewhat disappointed with their placement. However, head coach Denae Hill was not disappointed with the team's performance.
The team's third-place finish at state sets a new school record, marking a notable milestone for the Gardner Newman girls cross country team.
