The Port of Newcastle has announced that shipping will continue as scheduled, despite plans by climate activism group Rising Tide to protest coal ships from November 29 to 30.
Rising Tide has received approval from City of Newcastle for an event at Foreshore Park, not to disrupt the legal shipping operations within the shipping channel.
A Port of Newcastle spokesman stated that the protest will not affect shipping operations, regardless of whether protestors intend to enter the channel.
The City of Newcastle chief executive, Jeremy Bath, approved Rising Tide's application to use Foreshore Park as a campsite for the November protest.
