Ever since my childhood growing up in Spain, I’ve been interested in animals.
He became fascinated with the ocean environment and pursued marine biology, leading him to bioacoustics, the study of animal sounds.

Dr. Castellote's curiosity about animals started at a young age, with a notable incident where he placed a chair on the roof to observe cats moving across houses.
The Importance of Sound for Marine Mammals
Unlike humans, who rely on sight, marine mammals use sound as their dominant sense due to limited underwater visibility.
