Property Tax Cuts Package Proposed for Voter Approval
Florida voters may have the opportunity to reshape local property tax levies in the 2026 Midterm election.
House Speaker Daniel Perez has introduced a suite of property tax measures, developed by the Select Committee on Property Taxes, to be advanced in Tallahassee.
If we have faith in the voters to elect us, we should not be afraid to let them be a part of the conversation about the taxes they pay.
Key features of the proposals include:
- No cuts to law enforcement funding
- Exemption of school taxes, which account for approximately 46% of school funding (around $21 billion)
Voters will be able to choose "some, all, or none" of the options on the 2026 ballot.
