Sarah Hall, Warrington South MP, highlights the importance of discussing prostate cancer, as it could potentially save lives.
Tony, a 60-year-old fit man training for an ultra-marathon, didn't visit his GP because he thought he had cancer. However, after running some tests, the results showed advanced prostate cancer, changing everything for Tony and his family.
Not for sympathy, but so other men don’t wait until chance finds what a simple blood test could have caught earlier.
Tony didn't ignore symptoms, as there weren't any. However, he was unaware that from the age of 50, anyone can request a free PSA blood test from their GP. Additionally, if you're Black or have a family member who's had prostate cancer, you can and should discuss this with your GP from the age of 45.
Author's summary: Prostate cancer awareness is crucial for early detection and treatment.
