Nokia, Ericsson, and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute presented a proof-of-concept for a technology designed to address 6G video needs.

The partners developed a video coding technology for immersive media and mobile content in the 6G era, offering higher compression efficiency and improved energy efficiency.

There is “early evidence” the technology is “capable of meeting the requirements for the next video coding standardisation phase”

The proof of concept was positively evaluated by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group.
