Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri revealed that 2,752 people were denied Maltese citizenship via naturalisation in the past five years.
Out of these, 756 were dependents, including children or family members who applied alongside primary applicants.
The Minister didn’t reveal the countries of origin or the duration of stay in Malta for these applicants.
PN MP Graziella Attard Previ had sought transparency on citizenship refusals, tabling the question in a parliamentary session.
Author's summary: Over 2,700 citizenship applications denied.
