Government Initiative to Scrap Old Cars
The government will offer a matching grant of up to RM4,000 to encourage vehicle owners to dispose of their old vehicles and purchase new national vehicles.
As announced by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2026, the grant will be matched by national carmakers, resulting in a total rebate of RM8,000 for the old car.
The Madani administration will match the grant offered by Proton or Perodua, providing a total rebate of RM8,000 for the purchase of a new national car.
This initiative aims to promote the disposal of old vehicles above 20 years old, supporting the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) program.
