Fire at Lorton Scrap Yard Injures Multiple People
A fire broke out at a recyclables scrap yard in Lorton, Virginia, on Tuesday, injuring a firefighter and six others, with one person in critical condition.
Firefighters from Fairfax County and Fire Rescue battled the flames at Davis Industries, located at 9920 Richmond Highway, for several hours.
- A shelter-in-place advisory was issued for residents within a mile of the fire as a precaution.
- The advisory was lifted around 7:30 p.m.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hunter, a scrap metal debris pile caught fire around 1 p.m., but the cause is still under investigation.
Firefighters rescued an employee trapped in a crane during the fire, who remains in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
