On Tuesday, October 14, flights at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) were delayed due to a cyber security incident.
Public address systems and screens were hacked, displaying pro-Hamas messages, including "Free Palestine" and cursing the U.S.
The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging and restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system.
The City of Kelowna stated that the incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
Airport services were restored after a brief disruption, with the messaging being displayed for approximately two minutes.
