Chicago Catholics Confront ICE to Protect Migrants' Dignity and Rights
Chicago Catholics are working to protect the human dignity and religious rights of migrants amid federal immigration enforcement operations and protests.
"Keeping the country safe and being mindful of human dignity are not mutually exclusive. In fact, one cannot exist without the other."
Cardinal Cupich of Chicago criticized the "unnecessarily aggressive tactics" of federal agents, stating that they have overreached and seem intended to "terrorize and cause chaos, rather than fulfilling the noble calling of law enforcement."
The Catholic faithful and clergy are trying to uphold the dignity of affected immigrants and protect their rights to worship and receive the sacraments.
