Concerns over Inhumane Treatment during Deportations

A Nigerian man shared his experience of being deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in September.

He described being awakened in the middle of the night, along with other detainees, and having shackles placed on their hands and feet.

“It was just like a kidnapping,”

the Nigerian man said in an interview with The Associated Press, from a detainment camp in Ghana.

ICE officers allegedly refused to allow the detainees to speak to their attorney and instead used full-body restraint suits, known as the WRAP, to subdue them during the 16-hour flight to West Africa.

Author's summary: ICE's use of full-body restraints sparks concerns over inhumane treatment.
