Algonac City Council members approved the introduction of two amendments at their October meeting.
Mayor Rocky Gillis explained that the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy requires the city to operate under a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit. This permit mandates the city to reduce pollution, prevent illegal dumping, and maintain its stormwater system.
"The MS4 permit requires that the city of Algonac implement a detailed stormwater management ordinance,"
Gillis said. The city attorney drafted the ordinance with staff input. The new rules aim to keep the community safe from flooding and protect the St. Clair River and surrounding waterways from pollution.
