On Tuesday, October 14, some flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a hacking incident.
The incident started between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ), where pro-Hamas messages were displayed on screens and heard through the public address systems.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
According to a post on Kelowna Reddit, the messaging lasted for about two minutes and included phrases like "Free Palestine" and curses directed at the US.
The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
