Switzerland To Change Designs

Switzerland to Revamp Coin Designs

After 150 years of largely unchanged coin designs, Switzerland is seeking new creativity for its 10th series of bank notes, focusing on the nation's diverse altitudes and landscapes.

In comparison to other countries, such as the United States, where Abraham Lincoln has been on the 1-cent coin for 116 years, Switzerland's coin designs have been remarkably static. The female bust on the rappen coins has remained the same since 1879, and the standing Helvetia portrait on the half, 1-, and 2-franc coins has been in use since 1875.

However, Switzerland has used nine differently designed series of bank notes since 1911, showcasing the country's willingness to innovate and change its currency designs.

Suppose you think the 116 years that Abraham Lincoln has appeared on the United States' 1-cent coin, or the 55 years in the 1800s when Liberty was shown seated on the country's silver coins, are boring.

Author's summary: Switzerland updates coin designs after 150 years.
