The Randolph County Board of Education is implementing a consolidation plan due to budget cuts related to the school funding formula.
Superintendent Shawn Dilly cites a loss of students and corresponding loss of money as the reason for the consolidation. The county has seen a decline of nearly 700 students, resulting in a significant reduction in funding.
The changes will take effect in the 2026-2027 academic year. According to Superintendent Dilly,
“That’s basically a middle school that we’ve lost,”highlighting the significant impact of the funding cuts.
The funding formula is seen as a major contributor to the consolidation, as it does not support the continuation of current school operations.
